This is my Tango Memoir of sorts. It’s the how I came to be a Tango Teacher from where I started with Daniel Trenner to me living in my rented SUV to learn to dance Tango in San Francisco. It’s a series of stories of how I got my first teaching gig, which lead me to developing a teaching methodology known as “The Intensive Process”, and then what I did with that process. This is the story of how  I used it to generate a different kind of Tango Dancer. A dancer that was NO LONGER reliant on the teacher but instead self sufficient!  The book is a series of connected stories and fictionalized tales of 260 pages of me yammering on and on and on about myself, but somewhere in there you might find a bit of humor, a bit of insight, or just a way to pass the time with some fictionalized accounts of my life and times.

For obvious reasons I had to do a lot of changes to names, dates, times, places, and even geographies so that I don’t get sued or cancelled by anyone that has ever studied with me. Know that for most part the facts of X, Y, and Z are true, just that the names, genders, ages, physical descriptions are all fictionalized. There are some figures in the book that are mostly unaltered like the bit with Tony Rathburn’s involvement in getting me back to Buenos Aires, or how I ended up with my former fiance Janne, and the bits about Amsterdam, El Corte, New York City, and San Francisco. The rest…

The Real Deal:

Part of the reason I wrote this book was because I really, REALLY need the money. Another part was because I felt like I had to give something back to those people that have supported my healing process. At the same time I needed to do something creative because I couldn’t do the thing that I had been doing (my vanlife video project is currently on-hold). Along the way I discovered that some people don’t feel comfortable with donating money for a cause, they want something tangible for their money. I understand that, so this is my way of giving them that something. Perhaps they’ll find it interesting and amusing, or not. But for all these reasons and the one that really wakes me up in the morning, being creative, I wrote this book.

Backstory: Last may I fell down a ravine in California and ripped my left quad tendon! This left me unable to walk properly. I had to have surgery to correct the problem and it’s going to be a long, long, long, and did I mention “LONG” ? Recovery process, upwards of a year. This is a soft tissue tear, the worst kind that you can have. And as such it takes the longest to heal. So while I am mending I can’t work because I can’t stand for too long and I can’t sit for too long. The pain is too much. I’m in rehab and on meds to help but let’s just say that living in a van isn’t exactly helping the situation.  But living in a van is all I have right now. So donating to the cause is helpful so that I can buy gas, food, cellphone, and pay for my rehab time.

So there I am, sitting in my van, whining and complaining at myself that I can’t do this or that, and I start writing about my life as a Tango Teacher, just these little snippets of my tango life that came before. I had retired from tango but I still had a few projects that were outstanding and on-hold for one reason > I didn’t have the software (I do now) to do them. In the meantime, the stories just flowed. I posted a few on Facebook and people seemed to like them. And a few suggested that I put a book together and this is the result of that suggeston.

If you have donated to my GoFundMe or are part of my Patreon group, you get the book absolutely free of charge. However, I’ll put out > At this point in time, I have only received $5469.00 in donations since last may. Have you ever tried to live on $5469 dollars for 9 months ? Let’s just say that it’s exceptionally challenging and that’s putting it mildly. I need money to eat, for gas, for this and that. GRRRRRR! So if you can donate to the cause that would be great, or buy the book, or both. Either would really be helping me out.

Every dollar given is going directly to 5 things:

1.) Gas and Food!
2.) Rehab!
3.) Van Repair > I need a new everything. No van ? No roof over my head. So van repair is very important!
4.) Cell Phone Bill
5.) Repay an outstanding loan.

If you’re thinking that I’m out here partying on your donations, think again! I can barely walk a straight line at this point. Party ? Yeah, not. Try lying down most of the day and writing my brains out when I’m not doing my rehab or exercises. The next 6 months are going to be critical to my development so that I can get back to walking normally. Honestly, this is so bad right now that I’m not dreaming about girls, money, or exotic places. You know what I am dreaming about nearly every night ? Running.

Which is to say Donate whatever you can or buy the book.
